Our annual makers’ fair celebrating contemporary craft and design across fashion, homeware, print and illustration is back. With our partners Creative Edinburgh we are giving a special focus on emerging designers and collectives. Presenting gorgeous items to add to you home and wardrobe, there will also be designer led events and workshops to give some insight into their working practices and try your hand at making.

Creative Edinburgh presents two short talks with designer/illustrator Karen Mabon and illustrator Susie Purvis, sharing secrets and experiences from the inside of running design-led businesses. Come and pick up some tips on growing your enterprise locally and internationally, and on which paths to take on your design journey. The talks are half an hour each with time built in for your questions at the end.

Join Laura Macintosh, Commercial Director of Karen Mabon – known for their illustrative silk scarves and printed textiles. Laura will talk about the business, its growth and how they have gained international recognition.

Sunday 17 June

Susie Purvis
3–3.45pm Free. Book via Eventbrite
Join Susie Purvis as she talks about her life as an illustrator: the hurdles she faced, the mistakes and successes on her journey in the industry. This talk will be full of tips for those of you interested in navigating similar paths.

Jude Gove: Make your own Leather Coin Purse
10am–1pm. £35 (suitable for 12+ years). Book via Eventbrite
Using soft leather and pure wool felt, Jude Gove will take you through all aspects of making your own coin purse. Choose your leather, cut out your design and stitch it all together using simple hand sewing techniques. All materials provided.

Kate Colin: Make your own Geometric Paper Vase
2.15–4.45pm. £35 (suitable for 12+). Book via Eventbrite
Explore folding techniques, patterns and shapes, and learn how to make three-dimensional creations using a few simple folds. You’ll make hanging decorations and your own geometric paper vase to take home. High quality colourful paper and all materials are included.

Sunday 17 June

Stefanie Cheong: Make your own Rock Jewel
11am-12.30pm. £25 (suitable for 8+ if accompanied by an adult). Book via Eventbrite
Grind natural rocks into pigment or shards to add to jesmonite, giving colour and texture which will then be embedded in a circular, triangle or square mould. You will fashion a closure pin from 100% recycled silver for the back, transforming your rock jewel into a wearable brooch or pin.
