NOD curates a selection of jewellers who's work explores social issues, mental health, the jewellery industry, human rights and environmental issues. They aim to use their work as more than just some pretty to wear.
I've been wanting to play with some more ideas for this show, looking at the many aspects of recovery from mental illness that I found I was not aware of or prepared for during my recovery.
The main issue I found what that I wanted to be better NOW. Once I found the strength/courage/will to seek help and start on the right track to recovery, I just wanted to be 'fixed'. It can take years to fully recovery, and it can be overwhelming to feel like you need to be better straight away.
So whilst I love my current pieces representing recovery I felt they were the full picture. I feel there's more need to remind people that it's better to focus on one thing at a time rather that being total well straight away.
My new designs titles Pieces and Piece by Piece are a reminder to really focus on one aspect that you can improve. Maybe it's getting up early, maybe it's taking a walk every lunch time. What ever that is, unless you focus on that one aspect of your recovery fully, you won't master it and be able to move on to the next stage.
